About Mrs. Raney
My name is Allie Raney, and I am the Reading Specialist at Canyon Vista and Cedar Valley Middle Schools.
I have spent the last 10 years in the elementary classroom, teaching 5th grade for seven years in Kansas City, and 3rd grade for the past three here in RRISD at Elsa England Elementary. I am excited to be a Reading Specialist this year and focus all of my energy on what I'm most passionate about-- literacy education!
Originally from the Dallas area, I went to the University of Missouri to study magazine journalism. After a mid-college epiphany, I realized that my true calling in life was to be an educator. I ended up graduating from Mizzou with a degree in elementary education, and then went on to earn my master's degree in reading from Northwest Missouri State University.
My husband (who is also a teacher in Round Rock!) and I met at Mizzou and have been married for seven years. We have a two year old son named Isaac, and our baby girl Amelia was born this past September. And of course, our family wouldn't be complete without our dog, Bowser.
No matter what field of work people choose, strong communication skills are an asset. This starts with reading and writing, which go hand-in-hand. Being able to read, interpret, understand, reflect on, and react/respond to a variety of texts is what will make students most successful as they move through life. My goal is to build essential literacy skills while sparking an enjoyment of reading in my students.
